Roger Varian had a highly commendable week at Royal Ascot with Molatham (Group 3 Jersey Stakes), Mountain Angel (Listed Wolferton Stakes), Fujaira Prince (Copper Horse Handicap) and Khaloosy (Britannia Handicap) all successful, and hardly a day goes by without the Bury Road trainer in Newmarket adding to his total.

The score presently stands at 34 for the year and a strike rated of 20 per cent is the sort of reading that any owner would require of his trainer.

Molatham may well have earned a step up to Group 1 level for the Prix Jean Prat after his hard-fought success in the Jersey and Mountain Angel has also earned a tilt at Group level with Deauville or Haydock the next stop.

Khaloosy could hardly have won what is one of the hardest races of the week in better style than when beating Finest Sound four and a half lengths in the Britannia Handicap and he has earned a step out of handicap company with the Group 3 Thoroughbred Stakes at Goodwood on his radar.

With an ultra-busy time ahead, Roger kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about some of his highest hopes coming out of Carlburg Stables.
