Ed Walker has made rapid strides in his career since moving back to Lambourn two seasons ago and this weekend looks to land the goal of goals when English King bids to give him and owner Bjorn Nielsen victory in the Investec Derby with their first runner in the race.

English King has headed the betting for the Epsom Classic since putting in an explosive performance in the Lingfield Derby Trial which was ran in the fastest time in 30 years. All has gone well for the Camelot colt since with big-race jockey Frankie Dettori having a get-to-know you work out with his Derby ride when visiting Kingsdown Stables last week.

Ed said: “He is a very exciting colt and we are looking forward to Epsom. He is in great nick and so far everything has gone smoothly and long may it continue to do so. He has a high cruising speed which he showed to good effect in the Lingfield Trial and appears to have taken that race extremely well and I couldn’t be happier with him.”

We have a lovely yard here at Kingsdown and hopefully everything is coming together. It’s fantastic to have a runner in the Derby and I always vowed I would never run a horse in the race if he didn’t really deserve his place there. English King delighted us with his performance at Lingfield and deserves to take his chance and we will find out if he is good enough.”

With a frantic week ahead of him, Ed kindly spoke to Tony Elves of attheraces.com about an exciting team of horses at Kingsdown Stables which he hopes will bring plenty of reward throughout the season.
